1. Hemorrhoid Rubber Band Ligation Technique: Disposable Instrumentation Vs. Resuable Instrumentation

R. De Falco et al
Special Department of Surgical Pathophysiology of the Digestive System; Faculty of Medicine and Surgery, “Frederico II” Naples.

Riv. It. Colonproct. 1995;14:97-102

Method

Hemorrhoid patients were either treated with KilRoid or a Barron-Mc Givney reusable ligator.
179 patients with grade 2-3 hemorrhoids were treated with 479 rubber band ligations

Results

Authors conclusion: The cost-safety ratio is better with KilRoid, because it protects the patient, the operator and the nursing staff from unwanted infections (One treatment with Barron costs 19.560 ITL and with KilRoid 21.200 ITL)
After six-months follow-up there was no difference in terms of recurrence rate or complication rate.

2. Hemorrhoid banding using videoendoscopic anoscopy and a single-handed ligator: an effective, inexpensive alternative to endoscopic band ligation.

Dickey W et al.
Department of Gastroenterology, Altnagelvin Hospital, Londonderry, Northern Ireland, United Kingdom.

Am J Gastroenterol 2000 Jul;95(7):1714-6

Method

39 patients – grade 2 or 3 hemorrhoids
Videoendoscopy anoscopy performed to give better and enlarged view of hemorrhoids (including photographic record if required)
Banding performed using KilRoid – 1, 2 or 3 hemorrhoids

Results

34/39 (87%) had no recurrence of bleeding
Authors conclusion: Using videoendoscopic anoscopy and Kilroid is an effective method that offers considerable cost advantages compared to using endoscopic band ligation
